Common Ground is Released - January 2022

Common Ground is released while Maren and Justin were in Mexico starting a new school, writing new songs, and enjoying and learning a new area that will most likely influence them annually. Stay tuned for more news on this development.

For now, we'd like to present Common Ground, a work that was written years ago (2015) but took some time to find the write mix and mastering (2022). With support from Oz Fritz, LowLite (L.A.), and Soul Graffiti Studios.

 Common Ground

100 BPM Key: G-

A song about balance. A time travel journey about relating, referencing & Inspired from Pablo Neruda’s poem:

“Ah, love is a voyage with water and a star, in drowning air and squalls of precipitate flour; love is a war of lights in the lightning flashes, two bodies blasted in a single burst of honey.”

(Deceased in 1973 – Pablo Neruda, the pen name of Chilean poet Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basoalto.)

It talks of the elemental and simple nature of our existence, chemistry and what we come from… and what we return to… also of our separateness and the unity, and the vitality of both to our very existence and ability to meet our complex array of needs.

This song speaks of finding our common ground while celebrating our differences, a mantra and prayer for us all in this time of division and struggle to stay connected, find individuation when we need it most. “Healing the darkness and light from now to the past” allows us access to our hardest darkest moments to bring light (visibility), acceptance, understanding and healing to those parts in a timeless action.

Sun in the east sky, Have me fly high

Feel the strength of the, Rays through your eyes

Warm my right side, Help me to have sight

Open wide to-the-water beyond wrong and right

Help me feel “We”, Love is a mystery

of water and a star, Coming right through me

Celebrate our differences find our common ground  (x4)

fossils form and wind, a-bout my mind

An echo-in-time, a print left behind

ink lines formed to rhyme, To read (in) another-time

Let us please be kind, As history, re-writes

Celebrate our differences find our common ground  (x4)

Eyes and teeth like gems in stone

We are precious timeless bones

a flame to breathe

for carbon release

& ashes fly east (eastward)

voices of the past,       in these dark lines last

lest a flood should pass,     makes the lines bleed fast

Healing to darkness,       darkness and light   (together)

From now to the past,       from now to the past,      from now to the past...

Moon in the west sky, -let me deep-dive

Feel the strength & the power,  Of the left side.

Ven nosotras, Love’s mysterious

Of water and a star, Coming right through us
